Revealing Vaca Muerta with high-density seismic

A cross-spread test acquired by Explor in Argentina showcases the geological detail achievable with STRYDE nodes, dense spatial sampling and a single seismic vibrator.

With 1 m midpoint spacing, the data was acquired using a single upgraded Explor INOVA AHV-IV PLS-364 vibrator with a single sweep. The STRYDE Lens processing team provided rapid turnaround, producing the fast-track brute stack shown here.

These early results clearly resolve the Vaca Muerta Formation at approximately 1,450–1,750 ms two-way travel time. According to Explor’s Chief Geophysicist, Ted Stieglitz, the data retains frequencies approaching 100 Hz in the first second, despite no advanced pre-processing and no estimation or application of refraction statics.

Explor conducts tests on every project to evaluate new technology and help customers understand the value of high-density seismic. This example offers an early look at what dense acquisition can reveal, before further processing.
