Digital arrays optimization for efficient land seismic exploration

How can seismic operators achieve the right balance between data quality, deployment efficiency and acquisition cost?

Developed by Saudi Aramco and STRYDE, this presentation explores how digital group forming can be used to optimise nodal land seismic acquisition. Using field data from collocated piezoelectric accelerometer nodes and conventional geophone arrays, the study compares different digital array geometries—from nine-node groups to reduced configurations and single-sensor recording.

The results show that digital group forming can produce deliverables comparable to conventional geophone arrays while offering greater flexibility in challenging terrain and offset-limited environments. The presentation also demonstrates how smaller digital arrays, including six- and four-node configurations, can maintain comparable imaging quality while reducing equipment requirements and accelerating deployment.
