The objective of the study is to enhance imaging of the deeper subsurface layers by first accurately characterizing the shallow subsurface. This approach is crucial because the shallow subsurface often contains significant velocity variations and high levels of attenuation, which can hinder the effective propagation of seismic energy to greater depths. By addressing these challenges at the near surface, the quality of deeper seismic imaging can be significantly improved. This work is being conducted at a site located within the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), in the vicinity of a pilot well drilled for a geothermal energy project.
